Daniel Miller of the Texas Nationalist Movement wrote an excellent article on DumpDC and so I wanted to highlight a portion of it here. I would urge you to read the entire thing as it fully mirrors South Carolina’s case for Independence and why this is such an important topic.
The situation now is not much different than it was before election day. Although there is a new crop of representatives in Washington, DC, a few who have committed to returning the Federal Government to its Constitutional limits, the odds are stacked against them. They are faced with an Executive Branch that has no regard for the Constitution much less a return to its limits, a Senate still composed mainly of those who agree with the Executive Branch both in method and direction, a well-entrenched party pecking order that is already publicly working to corral them even as they speak out against their “extremism”, a judiciary that is willing to rubber stamp Federal abuse and endorse it as “constitutional” and decades of unconstitutional Federal programs and agencies that will not go quietly. While the map seems overwhelmingly red, the Tea Parties, Constitutionalists and Liberty groups just got “Scott Browned”.
This is all in the context of the continuing economic meltdown. The Federal Reserve just announced that it was, in essence, monetizing the debt by its printing of $600 billion new pieces of paper bearing the likeness of dead Presidents for the purpose of buying government bonds. Welcome to the beginning of extreme inflation. This is in addition to the new bailouts, stimulus packages, industry takeovers and increased interest rates that are already on the table. All of this is touted as “necessary” to keep us out of a depression. And it will be this that will put the new crops principles to the test. Will they do what they promised or will they compromise in the name of staving off an “economic emergency”?The “lame duck” session of the Congress followed by the “Compromise Congress”, fueled by the growing economic disaster, will turn to the states that are still functional to draw resources to maintain the standard of living and the government entitlements of the rest. Much like a human body that is dying, the organs are shutting down and the body is placing more demands on those organs still functioning, eventually burning them out and dragging them into death.

Tonight on the Podcast Michael and Tom discussed the Aiken area chapter meeting as well as the Republican “Pledge to America.” Check out the audio:
Here is the article about the “Pledge to America” on DumpDC.com
This article bashes Governor Mark Sanford, claims that we need to “move on” and says that South Carolinians will enjoy “a huge sigh of relief” when the Governor is gone.
As a former resident of Aiken, S.C., I really feel for the residents of the Palmetto State. For the past 11 months, they have constantly had to deal with the fallout from Sanford’s confession last year that he cheated on his wife with his “soul mate” in Argentina.
The disgraced governor should have resigned right there in the State House rotunda while he was confessing his sins.
Governor Sanford made a huge moral mistake and caused a lot of suffering in his family. That said, he was easily the most pro-liberty governor in my life time. He vetoed almost everything under the sun and a staged great protest against government spending by bring pigs to the Statehouse. He has been against the Federal Reserve. He opposed the Kyoto Protocol. And he is relatively antiwar (see his voting record here).
Has Sanford been perfect? Of course, not. He has not consistently defended the sovereignty and liberty of the people of South Carolina. But he has been a lot better than previous governors. I, for one, will not be cheering his departure. Governor Sanford, many of us will certainly miss you and your veto pen.
Have you heard about the Minnesota-South Carolina secession connection yet?
DFL Party Chair Brian Melendez called the 2010 DFL state convention to order this morning by coming down hard against the idea of secession.
Specifically, Melendez cited a recent action by Republicans in Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, who earlier this month voted — apparently unaninmously — to approve secession as an option.
So, secession seems a hot issue in unlikely Minnesota all of a sudden. And guess who is coming to South Carolina now?
His top advisers have already started talks with key political players in South Carolina, and now Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a potential 2012 presidential contender, is planning his first foray into the crucial early primary state.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if Gov. Pawlenty were asked by the media if he supports the position of the Republicans in his State’s Fifth District? Imagine the irony of a Northern Republican quizzed about his State’s support for secession while he visits South Carolina! Priceless, huh?
The Palmetto Patriot pointed out two little bits of big government intrusion that are happening right here in South Carolina:
Republican Statehouse member from Aiken, SC Tom Young is proposing to strip drivers licenses from high school dropouts until they are 18 years old. This way those who have failed at school or are no longer interested in the government “education” provided there will not be able to easily get a job or provide for themselves. This should succeed in putting more folks on the dole and increase the State’s powers into our lives just a little bit more. Great idea from the “small government” party, huh?

He follows that up with the latest on the proposed cigarette tax, which is another example of totalitarian control.
We’ve got to bring liberty and freedom back to the Palmetto State, one step at a time. It starts by opposing such ridiculous nanny-state regulation at the local, county, and state level. We must secede to be free, but that alone will not carry us.
